CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Beginner Storyboarding: Graphic Novel + Illustration

Learn the art of storyboarding, essential for film, TV, commercials or graphic novel writing. This skill is the technical process of illustrating moment-to-moment action within your story. In this course, we practice drawing exercises, learn how to incorporate narrative into a story arc, employ tension, and build suspense to convey emotion and drama.

Beginner Oil Painting

Creatively Wild’s popular beginner course in oil painting is perfect for enthusiastic artists looking to get started in oils. Learn to use the materials, outline your painting, layer, and blend to create value and form. We demo a range of brushstroke applications, develop confidence in color mixing, and teach you to choose color palettes to create mood and tone.

Beginner Drawing + Illustration

Drawing is the most valuable skill in visual arts and is essential for all artistic disciplines. Our beginner’s course is invaluable for developing a strong foundation. Study classical drawing techniques for achieving accurate proportion and linear perspective. Develop an eye for line, form, and tone in still-life arrangements. Learn to create form, draw shapes and create volume and accuracy.

Figure Drawing with Model (BYO materials)

Perfect for established artists and beginners, Practice figure drawing with a live model, capturing the human body's anatomical proportions, and studying musculature and posture to sharpen your observational skills. Developing confidence takes time: put in the hours to hone your skills. This is open studio time and is a self-led class, NO instruction or materials are supplied.

Introduction to Photoshop DESIGN

Learn the fundamentals of Photoshop and render realistic images. Develop skills in using tools (layers, masks, and filters), selection tools (marquee and lasso), painting tools (custom brushes, erasers, gradient), photo retouching tools (clone stamps, spot heals, and patch), film photography tools (dodging, burning, and sponge), transformation tools (scaling, warping, rotating, and perspective). Whether you're a total beginner or looking to refresh your skills, this class is appropriate for everyone.

Beginner Watercolor Painting

Our beginner’s guide to watercolor painting equips you with the fundamentals to work in this beautiful translucent pigment. Watercolor renders reflection and light in the most fluid and enchanting way: discover how to get the most out of this pigment with brushwork and various techniques. We will use natural (trees, fruit, flowers, seascape) and urban (streets, buildings, bridges) subject matters. Using reference photos as a guide, learn to sketch and incorporate effective composition, and learn a variety of watercolor techniques like wet-on-wet, dry-on-dry, blooming, splattering, masking, gradated, flat wash, and more.

Painting for the First Time: AcRYLICS

Haven’t picked up a paintbrush since school?
It’s never too late to learn and now is the right time to dive in. This painting class is designed to help you overcome your fears and get you started. Get the essentials in this informative course: choosing subject matter, color mixing, brushwork techniques, creating form, light, and shadow, and using color to establish tone and mood. In a short few weeks, develop confidence as you grow your skill set.

Combined Art: Painting, Drawing, Collage

Mixed media frees you up to think about creativity through another lens. Explore the possibilities of mixed media: discover non-traditional media and found object art to make unique textured works with your personal mark. In this course, we will explore working with recycled materials: magazines, colored paper, newspapers, recycled machine parts, string, fabric, and threads, and add paint, pastels, charcoal, and printed text. We welcome students to bring in their own items too: household items or personal items you have a connection to will give pieces a fresh and individual flair.
